Prevalence of positive pap smears
Main Article Content
Abstract
In the Pap test, normal squamous and cylindrical cervical cells are observed, in the process of inflammation, or with new formation that are grouped into NIC1, NIC2 and NIC3. The inflammations can be from infections, viral, bacterial, by fungi, by parasites or hormonal problems. The problem is the lack of knowledge and awareness to go to the Pap smear, so this study is proposed and to obtain percentage information on the positive results of the Pap smear and to be able to raise awareness through work. The objective of the research was to find out the prevalence of positive Pap results in women who come to the Inmaculada Concepción District Hospital from July to December of 2018. The descriptive study was carried out with a quantitative approach, with a population of 1,716 women, of the which were studied at 1,363 that correspond to women from 15 to 45 years of age. It was concluded as a prevalence of the positive Pap results that 0.44% of non-pregnant women found CIN1 and 0.07 pregnant wo- men being the most frequent stage; 63% have inflammation, 35% without inflammation and 2% with atypia; of which 32% are pregnant women and 68% are not pregnant. Most of the women present some alterations in the cervix mainly due to fungal infections called Candida with a percentage of 6.16% non-pregnant and of pregnant women the most frequent infection with 4.70% is Gardnerella.
