Abstract

Diabetes is a chronic disease that affects the way the body converts food into energy. The pancreas produces a hormone called insulin, which acts as a key that allows blood sugar to enter the cells of the body to be used for energy. When there is not enough insulin or cells stop responding to insulin, too much sugar remains in the bloodstream, and over time this can cause serious health problems. There is no cure for diabetes yet, but its effect on life can be greatly reduced by practicing healthy lifestyle habits, taking medications as needed, learning about diabetes self-management, and not Missed appointments with the health care team. With the intention of observing the behavior of this disease in the population, a pilot study was proposed in the Municipal Market of Caaguazú in 2020. It was measured in 89 subjects over 20 years of age; your gender, knowledge of your diabetes status, age range and blood glucose range. 12% of the sample reported knowing their diabetic situation; 18 subjects showed values of diabetes, 6 altered and 65 normal. Among diabetics, 66.7% of this population corresponds to the female sex. If we look at age, the range with the highest frequency of diabetics is 40 to 59 years of age with 50% of the sample.
