Abstract

Pregnancy in young women represents a persistent challenge for healthcare systems in Latin America, especially in rural contexts where social and health conditions can increase the vulnerability of this population. This study aimed to determine the clinical and epidemiological profile of pregnant women aged 10 to 17 years treated at the Tobatí District Hospital during the year 2024. This was an observational, descriptive, cross-sectional study with a quantitative approach. The sample consisted of 34 pregnant women, and sociodemographic, clinical, obstetric, and healthcare access variables were analyzed through the review of medical records and institutional registries. The main findings showed that the majority were pregnant for the first time, were residents of rural areas, and had unplanned pregnancies. The predominant age range was between 15 and 17 years, with most participants currently attending school and limited family support reported. A low frequency of prenatal check-ups and a late initiation of these were evidenced, as well as the presence of complications such as urinary tract infections and anemia. The use of contraceptive methods before pregnancy was limited and, in many cases, unspecified. It was concluded that the pregnant women treated presented a profile characterized by poor reproductive planning, low prenatal care coverage, and exposure to clinical conditions requiring timely attention. The results obtained provided useful evidence to guide future interventions in sexual and reproductive health, especially in territories with similar characteristics.
