Abstract

A lipid profile is a test that measures blood lipid levels, including triglycerides, total cholesterol, and HDL and LDL lipoproteins. Dyslipidemia refers to an imbalance in cholesterol and triglyceride levels and is associated with conditions such as diabetes, obesity, and cardiovascular disease. This study adopts a quantitative, descriptive, non-experimental design with probabilistic sampling. Data was collected from patients at the San Francisco de Caaguazú laboratory using a technical data sheet. Of 380 outpatients, 192 data sheets were included in the study sample. The mean age was 72 years with a standard deviation of ± 14 years, and 65% were female. A high percentage of abnormalities were found in individuals between 60 and 70 years of age. The mean cholesterol level was 174 mg/dL, and the mean triglyceride level was 119 mg/dL. The lipoprotein fractions had a mean HDL value of 52 mg/dL, LDL of 78.9 mg/dL, and VLDL of 23.7 mg/dL. Total lipids showed a mean of 6.99 mmol/L with a standard deviation of 1.1. These findings highlight the importance of periodic lipid profile monitoring, especially in older adults, as a key tool for the prevention and control of cardiovascular diseases. Furthermore, the incorporation of clinical and lifestyle variables in future studies is recommended for a better understanding of the factors associated with dyslipidemia in this population.
