Analysis of ferritin levels in hemodialysis patients at Coronel Oviedo Regional Hospital, from April 2023 to March 2025
Main Article Content
Abstract
The study sought to analyze ferritin levels, a key indicator in the treatment of anemia and iron regulation in patients with (CKD) undergoing hemodialysis, which is a public health problem of great impact for both the state and the patient. The objective was to determine ferritin levels in patients aged 26 to 84 in the hemodialysis unit of Coronel Oviedo Regional Hospital during the period from April 2023 to March 2025. An observational, quantitative, and cross-sectional design was used, with 30 dialysis patients at Coronel Oviedo Regional Hospital. A male predominance of (86.7%) over female (13.3%) was identified, consistent with previous studies showing a higher prevalence of CKD in men. The most representative age group was 53 to 61 (33%), followed by 44 to 52 (23%) and 71 to 79 (20%). The majority of patients (93%) reside in Coronel Oviedo and (7%) in Carayaó. The analysis of pathologies showed that 53% (16) of the patients suffer from CKD as the main diagnosis. Ferritin levels were detected where 33% of patients had adequate levels (200-500 ng/ml). On the other hand, 17% maintained elevated levels (>800 ng/ml), which can represent a risk of iron overload, associated with chronic inflammation and systemic adverse effects.
