Abstract

Bilingualism is part of the cultural originality of Paraguay; where 52.6% is recorded as bilingual and 28% speak only Guarani. This could affect recollection of data in communication with the patient and affect the diagnosis, prevention, treatment and indications. In order to determine the amount of lost data during anamnesis to a Guarani-speaking patient, we used a cross-sectional descriptive observational design using interviews in Spanish and Guarani to 24 individuals. The amount of data loss was 42%. Regarding the comprehension was less than 50% for the clinical history in 29% of subjects and questions about congestion, heart problems and hyperventilation, dropped values above 70%. 41.7% comprised less than 50% postoperative indications and 58.3% understood least 50% of informed con- sent information. In conclusion the information lost during history was very high.
