Abstract
Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) are those diseases that can be transmitted from one infected person to another, through sexual contact without proper protection methods. The objective of this research is to determine the prevalence of STDs in patients between 18 and 50 years of age who attend the Inmaculada Concepción District Hospital of Caaguazú during the year 2022. A non-experimental design was used, with a quantitative approach and a level of descriptive knowledge. The sample taken was 120 patients between 18 and 50 years of age diagnosed with sexually transmitted diseases, 65 belonging to the pregnant population and 55 to the general population. Data collection was carried out through a documentary analysis through the review of the patient records of the Inmaculada Concepción District Hospital. The most representative results show that in the pregnant population there are more cases of syphilis and in the general population there are more cases of Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), with a predominance of affectation towards women and the group of young people. It was also determined that, regarding the origin of the patients, the highest percentage corresponds to patients from urban areas of the city of Caaguazú. It was determined that there is a prevalence of 71% of patients suffering from sexually transmitted diseases. It was observed that there is a higher prevalence of sexually transmitted diseases in groups of young people (18 to 24 years old) with a 60% and 40% prevalence for the adult group (25 to 50 years old). This shows that the disease with the highest prevalence in 2022 was Syphilis, considerably affecting the group of young people between 18 and 24 years of age, and in turn, women were the most affected.
