Prevalence of the use of antihypertensive drugs in patients attending the cardiology clinic of the Immaculate Conception District Hospital in Caaguazú

Abstract
Hypertension is a public health problem, since it has a high prevalence in the population, mainly in older adults, and is an important risk factor for death due to cardio- vascular disease; given this impact, it is necessary to improve knowledge about its control. The main objective of this study was to determine the prevalence of the use of antihypertensive drugs in patients attending the cardio- logy clinic from August 2021 to February 2022. A descriptive, quantitative and non-experimental study was conducted to explore variables such as sex, age, pharmacological group, drug and therapeutic scheme used. The data obtained were through the report forms of patients with hypertension. The results obtained were that arterial hypertension predominated in the female sex and in those aged 50 to 64 years. The most commonly used pharmacological group was angiotensin receptor antagonists (ARA-II), with losartan being the most commonly used drug. As a therapeutic scheme, there was a predominance of the use of two drugs.
